Chapter 12: Swindler
In this world, not everyone loves children.
Some people think that children are innocent, cute and lively, while others
think that they are noisy and annoying.
After
lunch, Chen Xi brought the little kiddo back home.
Maybe
it was because today was an extremely happy day for her, the little kiddo
excitedly chatted non-stop.
As
a result, several commuters on the bus were disturbed by her.
Finally,
a man adorned in a working suit glared back at Chen Xi as his patience has
reached the limit.
Upon
seeing it, Chen Xi gave an apologetic smile as he lowered his voice and told
the little kiddo to lower her voice when talking so as not to disrupt the
others.
After
her father softly educated her, the little kiddo cutely stuck out her tongue as
she continued to talk to her father, albeit at a softer volume.
After
the bus reached their stop, Chen Xi brought the little kiddo and dashed towards
a portable business stall to buy a XiaoMi phone which cost around 399¥ and a
phone number, costing him another 50¥.
Just
this purchase alone had cost him half of his total cash, making his muscles
felt quite sore.(TN: Figuratively)
After
a careful calculation, Chen Xi was left with around 200¥, which included the
amount spent on KFC; This meager amount of money was not even enough for the
admission tickets of the amusement park.
After
giving it some thought, Chen Xi decided not to bring the little kiddo out to
play tomorrow as filling his wallet was of utmost urgency.
Hence,
Chen Xi opened his phone and started to operate it.
Before
he left Earth, the Android system had just begun to be popular while Nokia was
barely getting by with their Symbian system.
After
5 years, Nokia had left the phone market and a 2000¥ phone back then could not
even compare to a less than 500¥ phone.
It
is quite mysterious if you think about it.
Chen
Xi sent a text to Lin Xuan and told her his number. He then took out Ning Zhong
Guo’s name card and called the number on it.
The call was soon connected and Ning Zhong Guo’s polite inquiries could be
heard.
Chen
Xi introduced himself and explained the situation to Ning Zhong Guo.
Although
Ning Zhong Guo felt suspicious of it, he did not say much. After a exchanging a
few simple pleasantries, they decided on the treatment time.
Tomorrow
morning 10am, Jin Cheng Court.
Jin
Cheng Court was Zhong Hai’s famous high end district. Their selling point was
the unique villa and colossal rooms.
After
ending the call, Ning Zhong Guo returned back to the dinner table. Ning Qiu
Tong pretended to eat as she listened in on the call. When the call ended, she
frowned and asked, “Dad, is it from that swindler?”
“Where
are your manners? This swindler, that swindler. What exactly has that guy
swindled from you?”
Ning
Zhong Guo casually chided.
Although
Ning Qiu Tong did not talk back, discontentment was written all over her face.
She
had brooded over the fact that the swindler even dared to cheat her father
continuously.
“Oh
right. Instruct Chef Wang to prepare a table of dishes tomorrow morning, an
important guest will be coming. Furthermore, your second uncle will be coming
tomorrow, so bring Qing Xue back too. That silly girl seldom comes home and as
the elder sister, you have to talk to her about it.”
Ning
Zhong Guo sat back to the dinner table and told his daughter about tomorrow’s
plans as he placed a few vegetables in her bowl
“Got
it.”
After
listening to Ning Zhong Guo’s words, Ning Qiu Tong nodded her head. However,
her eyes darted around and a marvelous plan was formulated.
She
had already thought of a way to punish that big swindler.
***
Early
next morning.
Although
the little kiddo was a little unhappy that her papa could not bring her to the
amusement park, she still showed understanding and support to her father’s
sudden work; All thanks to the repeated guidance that Chen Xi had taught her.
“Bye
bye papa! I will wait for you at home!”
The
little kiddo forcefully waved her small hands, her naive appearance caused Chen
Xi to break into a laugh.
Chen
Xi felt that he was already extremely lucky, as long as he could see the little
kiddo everyday.
After
leaving the house, Chen Xi dashed towards the bus stop.
After
an hour, he arrived at the inexpensive Jin Cheng Court.
After
registering his personal details in the guard room, Chen Xi was brought into
the district with the security guard leading the way.
Although
on the surface it seemed like he was leading the way, it was, however, to
actually monitor Chen Xi’s every single move.
After
all, not everyone was able to stroll into this type of high end district.
Based
on the address that Chen Xi had provided him with, the security guard led Chen
Xi to a villa. He then quietly stood aside, indicating that Chen Xi could knock
on the door.
Looking
at this splendorous and majestic villa in front of him, a doubt rose from
within.
Are
the wealthy people in this day and age so low key?
Driving
a broken A6, causing him to state such a low starting price…
After
Chen Xi pressed the doorbell, a middle aged woman dressed in a housekeeper
uniform answered the door.
Before
Chen Xi could speak, the woman smiled and asked, “You must be Mr Chen?”
With
the woman leading the way, Chen Xi had successfully entered the villa.
Next, he saw Ning Zhong Guo watching a television programme in the hall.
Brother
Chen, you are here? Please take a sit.”
Ning
Zhong Guo did not rise but continue to sit on the sofa, while indicating that
could take a sit.
Although
his words were polite, Chen Xi was not a 3 year old child and naturally, he
could sense the arrogance emitting from his bones.
Actually,
it was because of distrust.
Or
maybe he did not even trust Chen Xi from the start.
The
reason why Ning Zhong Guo was willing to give him a chance to try was that it
was the same as giving himself a chance too.
After
all, this incident was a life and death matter.
So
even if there was a 1 out of 10,000 chance, Ning Zhong Guo was still willing to
try.
After
exchanging pleasantries, Chen xi prepared to measure Ning Zhong Guo’s pulse,
checking the condition of his illness.
At
the same time, the sound of high heels suddenly sounded out from outside the
villa. (TN: …)
Chen
Xi glanced back and coincidentally saw Ning Qiu Tong leading a group of people
in.
“Dad,
let me introduce to you. This is Professor Xie, the current head doctor of an
acupuncture medical school with a master’s degree in teaching research
students. At the same time, he is part of the research committee of Hua Xia
advanced medical and a director of Zhong Hai Chinese Medicine committee.”(TN:
TLDR: Highly accomplished old dude)
“Professor
Xie. This is my father, Ning Zhong Guo.”
Behind
Ning Qiu Tong was an old dude, roughly about 60 to 70 years old. When they just
entered, she led the old dude straight to Ning Zhong Guo and acted as the
middle man(women) while she introduced each other.
After
listening to his daughter’s introductions, Ning Zhong Guo immediately rose and
shook the old dude’s hand, and happily said, “So it’s professor Xie. Pleasure
to meet you.”
Chen
Xi sat on the sofa as he slightly raised his head to look at this prideful
woman.
However,
Ning Qiu Tong treated him as if he did not exist at all; Without even sparing
him a glance.
An
adult male of 178cm was, right now, treated as transparent as air.
Looking
at how merrily Ning Zhong Guo and the old dude were conversing, Chen Xi could
not help but awkwardly rubbed his nose.
However,
almost instantly, he gave a slight chuckle at himself.
Perhaps,
this whole family had already regarded him as a swindler?
